Dear all,
We are pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue to be published in the journal Interfaces on the theme “Resistance,” inspired by the 2025 AFEA Congress. This issue will explore how narratives of resistance have challenged dominant ideologies, state policies, and cultural paradigms shaping U.S. society.
We welcome contributions examining the text–image relationship in representations of resistance to structures of power linked to race, slavery, territorial expansion, and imperialism. Topics may include Indigenous resistance, anti-imperialist movements, and the circulation of counter-histories through film, television, and visual arts.
Please submit a 500-word proposal, a short biography, and a selected bibliography by Saturday, December 6, 2025. Selected contributors will be invited to submit full articles (30,000–45,000 characters) by May 1, 2026.
