The University of Freiburg announces a W3 Professorship in English Philology (North American Literature Studies), to succeed Prof. Dr. Sieglinde Lemke at the Faculty of Philology in the Department of English. The successful candidate will be expected to represent the field of North American Studies with a focus on North American literatures.

The University of Freiburg announces a W3 Professorship in English Philology (North American Literature
Studies), to succeed Prof. Dr. Sieglinde Lemke
at the Faculty of Philology in the Department of English.

The successful candidate will be expected to represent the field of
North American Studies with a focus on North American literatures. A
strong philological orientation is highly desired, with excellent
skills in literary theory, textual analysis, and literary history, as
well as a proven research record in literary studies. This includes, in
both research and teaching, specializations in Law and Literature,
Popular Literatures, and Reading Cultures. Additionally, research
interests in cultural studies and media studies such as Gender and
Intersectionality Studies are desired.

The appointment to the professorship requires that the person to be
appointed has successfully secured funding for the W3 position for at
least four years through a highly competitive third-party funding
programme or comparable funding format. This funding must be suitable
for use with the W3 position and must have been granted within the past
three years.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree,
an outstanding doctoral dissertation and an excellent publication
record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research
and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German
academic system, are expected.
