The EAAS Digital Studies Network invites colleagues and students to its 2nd Online Open Forum, “Digitality and Power in American Studies,” which will be held via ZOOM on December 19, 2025 (6:00pm–8:00pm CET).
Co-coordinated by Tatiani Rapatzikou (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Frank Mehring (Radboud University), and Stefan Brandt (University of Graz), the forum offers a focused evening of discussion on how digital technologies shape cultural authority, scholarly methods, and contemporary reading and media practices within American Studies.
After a brief welcome address, the program features three sessions:
· Session 1 (18:05–18:35 CET) — Alexandra Glavanakova (Sofia University), “The Power of Digital Reading.”
· Session 2 (18:45–19:15 CET) — Thomas van Gaalen (Radboud University), “Corpus Analysis from Below? Charting Solidarity Discourse in the Interwar Caribbean.”
· Session 3 (19:25–19:55 CET) — Paschalia Mitskidou (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), “Virtual Reality as a Transformative (?) Medium/Technology: Issues of Power and Control.”
Τhe three sessions will be chaired respectively by Irakli Tskhvediani (Akaki Tsereteli State University in Kutaisi, Georgia), Gaetano Di Tommaso (Roosevelt Institute for American Studies, Middelburg) and Stefan L. Brandt (University of Graz).
