The list also serves to disseminate information from the EAAS and member associations in Europe. In addition, we encourage you to use this list to communicate other information that might be useful to American Studies scholars in Europe, such as announcements of conferences, jobs, grants, fellowships, and publication opportunities.

The 2026 BAAS Postgraduate Symposium invites proposals from postgraduate researchers at all levels and across all disciplines on the topic of Transatlantic Connections and the ‘Special Relationship[s]’. By using the term ‘Special Relationship[s]’, we intend to explore the relationship between not only the US and the UK, but also between the US and other countries. We invite panels and individual papers on this theme and encourage you to interpret it as broadly as you wish, including any aspect of the US’s transnational cultural, political and literary connections, influences or contrasts.

Much has been written about the United States role in securing the Good Friday Agreement. Less is known and documented about the ongoing efforts the US has made to ensure the success of the peace process. US intervention in Northern Ireland has taken various forms. America’s standing as a neutral but supportive partner waned under the Biden administration. Strains in the relationship have also emerged under President Trump given Sinn Fein’s refusal to engage with his administration. This conference seeks to examine US intervention in Ireland in the Post-1998 period.

We invite you to submit papers that explore American Studies through a digital lens, examining the multisensory quality of multimodal works as well as their creative, historical, social, political, and educational relationships to formative narratives and epistemologies.
